I am sure every photographer or artist can relate to this. While starting your craft, you are often asked what your style is. Or, "What kind of photographs do you take?" is another common one. For any artist, this question is so daunting. WHERE DO I BEGIN?! Do we have enough hours in the day to delve into this?! To the asker of the question, it's simple small talk such as, "How are you today?" with an expected one word answer. But to a budding artist, you just asked us the meaning of life itself. Okay, so it's not completely that intense. But for a photographer developing their craft, they may not know the answer right away.
This past year, 2014, has been a crucial year for the development of my style and brand. I always knew what I didn't like. But it actually takes thousands and thousands of camera clicks to see your unique style begin to develop. I had fun taking a look back at each wedding throughout 2014 and flag specific images that made my heart sing.
These are the moments you may not expect. They are not the photographs that my couples will make their facebook profile pictures, or that a publication would choose for their curated stories. They are those in-between moments where I was present and noticed what was going on around me. The light was perfect, and a little unicorn of a moment happened that took my breath away. It may not be groundbreaking, but they are captures that make me say, 'This is it. Right here. This is what Love & Light Photographs is all about."
And then descriptive words start to develop. Airy, Bright, Genuine, Candid, Editorial, Emotional, Romantic, Clean... a list of words that I continue to develop, edit, and reflect on. As I begin my re-brand this week, having these images as the central heartbeat of L&L will lead me in the right direction for the branding & website launch in March 2015. (Which is so exciting to even think about!!!)
(I also want to note to all my couples that each and every wedding I have photographed is so special to me. The photos in this post are completely those "je ne sais quoi" captures...they could have happened at any second at any event, and I want to make that completely clear on the point of this post!)
